PEC Public Lands Ride

Radio Support Coordinator: Jason Terosky KB3KPP

The Pennsylvania Environmental Council (PECPA ) Public Lands Ride is a mixed surface, non-competitive cycling event that seeks to showcase Pennsylvania’s public lands.  There are three different route options centered about Black Moshannon State Park — 25, 45 and 65 mile — with aid stations spaced about every 15 miles.  Due to the poor nature of cellular communications in the ride area, PARA members are located at each aid station and the headquarters to provide communication assistance throughout the event.

Recommended Equipment

At Aid Station 3, a 5-watt handheld with a stock antenna will provide a clear signal in and out of both repeaters. At all other locations, a 5-watt handheld with a mag-mount antenna stuck to a vehicle is the minimum recommended configuration. The clearest signal is obtained by using a 50-watt mobile rig and a mag-mount antenna stuck to a vehicle.

Please make certain that your radio’s batteries are fully charged prior to working this event.
